Varieties of the leather experience

There are some members of the leather community who put down the men who are into leather just because they like the look, feel or smell of leather. This isn't really fair to those leathermen, because one of the greatest aspects of our subculture is our acceptance of the great varieties within our society. We are free to explore our inner feelings of what turns us on, or what turns on our buddies, and build upon them. If the "turn on" is the look and feel of leather to someone, that's great. They don't have to live a full leather lifestyle to be a leatherman.

There are some guys who really get off on servicing another hot leatherman, others who like to lay back and just get serviced. If both are into this trip, that's great. Some men are into dirty talk and verbal humiliation, others are into giving it--good. There are others into bondage, S/M and physical torture. There are hot men into briefs, boots, uniforms, jocks, hats, latex, rubber and spandex, and others into feet, pecs, legs, pits, arms, backs, hungmen and other parts of the body. There are men into different body types including "bears" with hair and beards, and "surfers" who are smooth, hairless or shaven.

This is part of the beauty of our leather society. As long as it is sage and both buddies

are into it (or the group is) then there is nothing wrong with the scene. There is no reason to be ashamed of your fetish; it's part of what makes you unique. If you're in a leather bar and someone walks up to you and says he thinks your feet are "hot" and that he would really like to service them, the proper response is of flattery in his appreciation, even if you may not necessarily be into that trip. On the other hand, if the same thing happened in a "vanilla"-type bar the response could be to consider that individual weird or strange, which is not necessarily the case. This appears to be one of the reasons the leather society is growing at such a rapid rate--the open ability to express ourselves without judgment.

I find it very difficult to put down the lighter members of our society who are just now beginning to recognize the turn-ons available to them, no matter how limited or somewhat different they may seem. More than once I have played with someone and later found out that there was something they would have liked to do, but were afraid to ask, not knowing that their fantasy may have been a fun scene for me, too.

So, don't hesitate to express yourself and expand on your leathersex experience. ▼

Local organizing begins for March on Washington set for April, 1993

A sequel is being planned to the 1987 Lesbian and Gay March on Washington for April 25, 1993. The 1987 March drew 650,000 lesbians and gays to the nation's capital for three days of actions and protests, in order to advance the civil rights of our community. The 1993 March is planned to draw more than 1 million lesbians and gays from all 50 states and the U.S. territories.

The purposes of the march will be to: draw national and international attention to U.S. government oppression committed against the country's 28 million gays and lesbians; to send a message to politicians that gays and lesbians do exist, and in large numbers; and to help move our civil rights agenda forward.

To help organize and fund the event, a national board of directors is being

established, and its first meeting is set for January 18-19, 1992 in Los Angeles. The board will consist of four members from 17 regions of the United States, and will be charged with the responsibility of enlisting and coordinating volunteers to assist with the following activities: distributing information about the March, to the region; implementing fund-raising activities to help finance the March and to defray board member expenses to and fro meetings; and to energize the region in order to motivate gays and lesbians to attend the March.

Each region must reserve at least one board position for a woman, and another for a person of color. About three or four national Continued on page 11
